About Stride Calculator
How to calculate
running splits.
Work out lap pace, mile splits or race split times from a target distance and finish time. Stride Calculator also finds distance, time or average pace when you know the other two values.
Open running splits calculatorHow it works
Select what you want to find, enter the other two values, and the answer updates as you type. Pace is selected by default.
Choose the result
Find distance, time or pace. The chosen value moves to the bottom of the input list.
Enter two values
Use kilometres or miles, or tap 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon to fill the distance.
Read your splits
The result and split table update together. Change the split interval and strategy to suit your plan.
10 km + 50:00 = 5:00 /km
Time uses MM:SS or H:MM:SS. Pace uses minutes and seconds per kilometre or mile.Splits that fit your run
See the time for each segment and the elapsed time at every marker. Splits default to 1 km or 1 mile, depending on your distance unit. You can also choose 200 m, 400 m or 5 km, or enter your own interval.
Use the strategy slider for even pacing or a positive or negative split. The percentage compares the average pace of the second half with the first half.
Save your plan
Save splits creates an A4 portrait image of your table with the Stride Calculator name and website on it. The rows fill the page, and longer tables continue onto additional pages.
On a supported phone, the share sheet can save the image to Photos. You can also download it as a PNG.
Lap pace, mile splits and race split times
Split time is the time taken to cover one segment. Elapsed time is the total time reached at the end of that segment. For even pacing, divide your target finish time by the number of equal segments.
Lap pace calculator
For a 400 m lap, multiply your pace per kilometre by 0.4. A 5:00/km pace gives a 2:00 lap. Choose “400 m” under Split every to list each lap and its elapsed time.
Mile splits calculator
Switch to miles and leave Split every at 1 for mile-by-mile times. At 8:00 per mile, ten even miles take 1:20:00. The table shows both each mile and the running total.
Race split calculator
Tap 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon, then enter a target finish time. For a 50:00 10K, even pace is 5:00/km and the 5 km split is 25:00.
How to calculate average pace from splits
Add the split times, then divide by the total distance. Four 400 m laps of 2:00 each add up to 8:00 over 1.6 km, giving an average pace of 5:00/km. For unequal split distances, use the total time and total distance rather than averaging the individual pace values.
To check your combined pace in the calculator, select Find Pace, enter the total distance and the sum of your split times. You can then compare it with a target race time or generate a fresh split table.
