About & FAQ
Everything you need to know about Stride Calculator, from converting running pace to planning your race splits.
Built for runners, made to be simple.
Stride Calculator helps you turn a race goal into a pace you can train for. Whether you run in kilometres or miles, you can quickly convert speeds, calculate finish times and plan splits without doing the maths yourself.
Convert between min/km, min/mile, km/h and mph, with an interactive pace table.
Work out your finish time, distance or pace, with separate kilometre and mile settings.
View 200m, 400m, 1km, 1 mile or 5km splits for your chosen distance and goal.
The calculator interprets entries such as 3:40 based on race distance and lets you change the interpretation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter a distance in kilometres but use mile pace?
Yes. The Distance and Pace boxes have independent km and miles switches. For example, you can enter 10 km and a target pace of 5:25 per mile.
How do I calculate my race finish time?
Open the Pace Calculator, enter your distance and goal pace, and the calculator works out the expected time. You can also edit the time to calculate the pace you need.
What does 3:40 mean in the Time box?
The calculator uses race distance to make a sensible interpretation: for a 1500m, 3:40 normally means 3 minutes 40 seconds; for a marathon it can mean 3 hours 40 minutes. You can switch the interpretation if needed. Enter 3:40:00 to specify hours, minutes and seconds explicitly.
Can I change which splits are displayed?
Yes. Under Your Splits, select 200m, 400m, 1km, 1 mile or 5km. By default, the calculator shows 1km splits when your pace is set to kilometres and 1 mile splits when your pace is set to miles.
How are split times calculated?
Each split is based on your target average pace and the distance of that segment. If the final segment is shorter than the selected split distance, it is calculated proportionally. Displayed times are rounded to the nearest second.
What's the difference between the two tools?
The Pace Conversion Tool shows equivalent pace and speed values across different units. The Pace Calculator works from race distance, finish time and target pace to help plan a run or race.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The calculator and converter are designed to work on mobile as well as desktop. The advertising wings are hidden on smaller screens to leave more room for the tools.
